Bangkok is hosting this week’s tournament as Thailand and their seven guests were divided into two groups with the bottom team being eliminated after the first stage. While this year’s tournament certainly lends itself to a simple and compact format, there is hope that it can grow significantly by the time the tournament is played again in two years. Besides the championship, teams are fighting for the opportunity to replace Taiwan in Division A in the next tournament in 2025.
Group A:
Sunday started with the two games in this group and there was some interest in seeing Mongolia’s reentry into 5×5 play, but they lost to Indonesia 69-52. Fook Yee Yap scored the most points of anyone over the course of the day, but Malaysia lost to Iran, which got significant contributions from the 50 year old Edna Eissaian, won 65-59.
