Australian League Round 7 December 13th-17th

The Wednesday game this round was Perth’s comprehensive 98-58 dismantling of Sydney behind Amy Atwell. Southside had both Mercedes Russell and Jasmine Dickey firing from the import spots, but Townsville rolled to a 105-77 win behind Stephanie Reid and Sami Whitcomb. On Friday, Canberra finally picked up their first win of the season 84-72 over Melbourne thanks to a brilliant effort from Jade Melbourne. The two teams above them also met with Mehryn Kraker helping Bendigo get past Lauren Mansfield, Isabelle Bourne, and Adelaide 81-77. Townsville rolled past Sydney 70-48 on Saturday. Isobel Borlase found her scoring touch on Sunday in Adelaide’s 68-59 win over Sara Blicavs and Melbourne. Maddison Rocci and Bec Cole fired Southside past Mehryn Kraker and Bendigo 91-81 to finish the round.

Polish League Round 10 December 15th-17th

This round started on Friday with Keishana Washington leading Torun past Marta Marcinkowska and Pruszkow 77-64. Saturday started with Poznan’s 78-63 win over Polonia Warszawa, setting up the big game of the weekend between the top two teams. It turned out to be an excellent game and Chloe Bibby’s brilliance helped Gorzow have the better of the second half to hand Polkowice its first loss 93-89. Rennia Davis led Arka Gdynia to an 80-63 win over Bydgoszcz in the first game on Sunday. Elin Gustavsson led Lublin past Sleza Wroclaw 73-61 to stay close to the league leaders.

A busy Saturday in this round included an impressvie 78-60 win by Estudiantes at Girona. The bottom two teams in the standings met, but Bembibre still could not pick up their first win, losing to Celta 61-53 at home. The top two teams also met and Zaragoza held on in Salamanca for a 78-74 win to climb above Avenida. Maria Almendro and Ibaeta left Lugo with a 65-58 win over Ensino. Valencia raced past Araski 74-35 to also move up among the top trio. Sedis finished the day with a 69-60 win over Jairis. Rachel Howard led Ferrol to a 75-70 win over Barcelona in the first game on Sunday. Gran Canaria is back to being tied for the last safe spot after losing to Gernika 68-55.

The last round before a long holiday break started on Saturday with Villeneuve-d’Ascq defeating Iva Slonjsak and shorthanded Saint-Amand 99-68. Charleville-Mezieres edged Roche 64-59. Landes took a big lead after halftime to win 64-45 at Landerneau. Lyon went from a big win midweek to find the expected climb up the domestic league standings tough again, losing to Charnay 68-65 on Sunday. Tarbes continued to battle without any depth, winning 57-49 against Angers behind Carla Leite. Bourges stayed firmly in the lead at the halfway point with a 79-70 win over Migna Toure and Lattes Montpellier.

The round started on Saturday with Orman’s slide continuing against tougher opposition, losing to Kayla McBride and Fenerbahce 88-62. Jessica Jackson and Katrina Pardee led Hatay, but they are still winless after losing to Brooke McCarty-Williams, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, and Cankaya University 91-79. Alanna Smith had a good game, but Danielle Robinson and Khadijiah Cave were excellent for Tarsus in an 80-74 win. On Sunday, Lyndra Weaver and Natasha Mack teamed up to lead Botas past Joyner Holmes and Kayseri 83-64. Channon Fluker and Bursa defeated Kelsey Bone and Antalya 83-75. Dana Evans and Li Yueru paced Besiktas again, this time in a 77-73 win over Jessica Thomas and Nesibe Aydin. Marina Mabrey and Cukurova finished the first half of the schedule with an 83-74 win over Myisha Hines-Allen and Galatasaray.

The last full round before a holiday break started on Saturday with Iggy Allen making an instant impact for Vasas in an 83-65 win over Szigetszentmiklos. MTK easily defeated Cegled 75-47. The two old rivals met on Sunday and Gyor was able to flip the script on Jelena Brooks and Sopron 105-91 with big games from Bridget Carleton and Destiny Slocum. DVTK stayed perfect with a 72-64 win over Szekszard. PEAC finished the round with a 95-65 win over BEAC.
