Overseas League Updates February 21st

EuroLeague Quarterfinals Game 1

All series started on Wednesday with the teams swapping venues next Wednesday and trying to either advance or avoid elimination. The real work began for Fenerbahce’s title defense and they did not have a full lineup even after a late addition, but did get past Alexis Prince, Andrea Vilaro, and Avenida 98-91 behind the trio of Kayla McBride, Yvonne Anderson, and Napheesa Collier. Cukurova made also made two big additions to the roster recently and Kahleah Copper had a successful debut alongside Marina Mabrey in their 79-62 win over Zaragoza. Villeneuve-d’Ascq looked ready to be the first road team to win early in Miskolc, but DVTK had the better of the rest of the game for a 78-66 win. USK Praha made it a clean sweep for the home teams after their 78-60 win over Schio.

Polish League Round 21 February 20th-21st

With no teams involved in continental play, a full round could be played midweek and it started on Tuesday. Asia Strong led Torun past Zuzanna Puc and Poznan 93-83. Arka Gdynia has the bye in the last round so they were the first team to finish the regular season after Kamila Borkowska led them past Marta Marcinkowska and Pruszkow 101-69. Wednesday’s first game saw Klaudia Wnorowska and Jessica January lead Zaglebie Sosnowiec past Bydgoszcz 84-60. Bria Goss and Kylee Shook had Lublin looking like championship contenders again early, but Zala Friskovec and Brianna Fraser helped Polkowice recover and look like the top seed in their 92-84 win. Sleza Wroclaw defeated Polonia Warszawa 79-71.

Hungarian Cup Quarterfinal

Instead of a single weekend event, the cup quarterfinals are standalone games this year fitted into the schedule when teams are available and the first game was played on Wednesday. Sopron has been looking for chances to establish themselves after early season struggles and Jelena Brooks led them in a 76-64 win over Kathryn Westbeld and Szekszard.
