Overseas League Updates May 1st

Hungarian League Finals Game 1

The final set of series started this week with the consolation bracket games on Tuesday. PEAC defeated Vasas to start the day to take the lead in the 5th place series. Fanni Szabo led MTK in a 100-74 win over Barbara Angyal and BEAC to start the 6th place series. The two series for medals started on Wednesday and the delay to the end of the season meant that not every team was playing with their best available lineup. Jacinta Monroe and Kathryn Westbeld started Szekszard with an 82-67 win over Sopron in the bronze medal series. Gyor was hurt the most by the timing, losing two starters in what would have already been a tough path to the championship, falling to Milica Jovanovic and DVTK in their opener in Miskolc.

Italian League Quarterfinals Game 3

There were two series that needed deciding games on Wednesday. Ragusa had looked ready to spring an upset as soon as the postseason started and they came out of the gates on fire in the first quarter. Cecilia Zandalasini and Bologna cut the deficit in second quarter, but could not continue after the halftime, falling behind further to get bounced from the playoffs 74-57. Campobasso stifled Sesto San Giovanni 51-41 in the other game to also advance.
