World Cup Pre-Qualifying Day 3 August 21st

Rwanda Group D

The group had their second games on Wednesday and the first matchup was between the teams that had lost their opener. Great Britain managed to fend off Trinity Baptiste and Lebanon 77-72 as both teams found their offense in the fourth quarter. The hosts breezed past Argentina 58-38 in the other game. Argentina plays Lebanon on Thursday before the final game and Lebanon needs a win to have any chance of advancing, but will want a solid margin because they will not know if a tiebreaker comes into play. That result and a win for Great Britain would send Great Britain and Rwanda through while a win for Argentina and a win for Rwanda would send those two teams through. Lebanon and Rwanda winning would send Rwanda through and send the other three teams to a tiebreaker that would be determined by the margin of Lebanon’s win over Argentina with Great Britain not finishing at the top regardless of the margin. Argentina and Great Britain wins would create a threeway tiebreaker at the top for two spots, one of which would definitely go to Great Britain.

Mexico Group B

The first game in Mexico City saw Milica Jovanovic and Montenegro take care of business with a 74-52 win over Mozambique. The hosts had the early lead in the last game of the day, but had to rally late to finish off New Zealand 71-64 behind another good game from Gabriela Jaquez, who the fans hope will not be the only member of the family playing for the country. That result made the final day in this group simple with New Zealand and Mozambique facing off having been eliminated and Mexico and Montenegro having advanced, but playing to determine their opponents for the next game.
