The championship of the continent is being contested in Santiago, Chile this year with the hosts and the next three highest finishing teams also qualifying for next year’s AmeriCup in the same country. Since Peru is not fielding a team, the groups are unbalanced with five teams in Group A and four teams in Group B. Rather than spread out the Group B games, the extra days needed to fit in the games in Group A will all be played first.
Group A
The first game on Saturday was between the historic rivals and both teams had just finished a competitive tournament, although Brazil had made some changes while Argentina had the exact same squad. The game was tied at halftime, but Argentina dominated the second half to defeat Emanuely De Oliveira and the defending champions 75-48. The hosts welcomed Uruguay in the other game and Fernanda Ovalle led them to an 80-64 win over Carolina Fernandez and company.
