The season-opening event returned to a two team format this season on Friday after the other two semifinalists decided to no longer field teams at this level. Neither team was at full strength, but it was a good preview of the battle that both teams will continue for the rest of the season. Awak Kuier led Venezia to the 88-81 win and picked up the MVP award while Janelle Salaun had a strong debut for Schio.
