Turkish League Round 1

The opening weekend split games across Saturday and Sunday as the division ended up with an odd number of teams again. Galatasaray won the first game 77-57 over Tarsus, giving Derin Erdogan her professional back in her home country. Fenerbahce will have to wait to debut their full strength roster, but the defending champions rolled past Khadijiah Cave and Botas 81-56. Two teams that had already started their seasons in Europe, but not with their full rosters, closed the day and Bodrum had a great start in the top division with an 82-74 win over Holly Winterburn and Besiktas. Zonguldak had won promotion, but was unable to field a team for the first game against Orman. That left Sunday starting with Iliana Rupert pacing Cukurova in an 89-69 win. Bursa Ant had a good start to their time at the top level after Beatrice Mompremier led them to an 83-71 win over Crystal Dangerfield and Kayseri.

Italian League Round 1

The traditional single site opening weekend was played at a neutral site in Genoa this year and the troubles affecting several teams in the offseason meant that the league was stuck with an odd number of teams again and San Martino di Lupari received the first bye. Sara Roumy was excellent for Faenza as they started Saturday with a 66-54 win over Brixia. Tinara Moore had a good game for Sesto San Giovanni, but Schio won 76-59. Derthona had a tough draw for their first game at this level, losing to Venezia 80-47. Alpo had a better start to life at this level, defeating Battipaglia 63-59 on Sunday. The early start did not help Sassari either, losing to Campobasso, which got a professional debut from Sara Scalia, 73-45.
