The traditional competition between the winners of EuroLeague and EuroCup could not be played in that format this year with London Lions no longer having the financial ability to field a professional team. Runners up Besiktas faced their rivals Fenerbahce as a result and that ended up having a major impact on the event. The game was scheduled for Wednesday, but had to be postponed with Fenerbahce leading 4-2 due to fan pyrotechnics being launched at the court.
The game resumed on Thursday, but it was learned that Besiktas would not be able to field their full lineup even with all players arriving, which would have been the only realistic shot at the teams squaring off with their full rosters available. Leaning on their starters, Besiktas had the lead at halftime, but losing Nika Muhl to injury in her European return left them scrambling. Fenerbahce’s depth helped them get the 79-63 win.
