Overseas League Updates October 27th

Polish League Round 4

The round started on Friday with Schaquilla Nunn and Sleza Wroclaw defeating Bydgoszcz 73-55. On Saturday, Polkowice got quite a test from Kamila Borkowska, Gabby Nikitinaite, and Zaglebie Sosnowiec, but Emma Cannon helped them prevail 88-84. Stephanie Jones and Gdynia started Sunday with an 86-72 win over Sierra Moore and Polonia Warszawa. Gorzow was finally able to get their first win 91-50 over Torun. Jovana Popovic and Poznan finished the day by handing Lublin their first loss 72-71.

Turkish League Round 5

This was the first round that could be played as scheduled and half of the games were on Saturday, starting with Nikolina Milic and Fenerbahce defeating Grace Berger and Orman 87-67. It was the same scoreline in Ankara when Sydney Wallace paced Nesibe Aydin in their win over Beatrice Mompremier and Bursa Ant. Natasha Howard had a great game for Cukurova, but they lost to Botas, which was led by Damiris Dantas and Lindsay Allen, 79-74. Dana Evans and Besiktas had the lead early on Sunday, but Jessica Thomas and Emlak Konut came back for a 73-70 win. An exciting game in Kayseri had Brooque Williams leading the hosts, but Jillian Alleyne and Shyla Heal made sure Tarsus left with an 89-85 win. Galatasaray finished the week with a 78-60 win over Bodrum.

Spanish League Round 4

The round started on Saturday in Madrid with Estudiantes getting close to an upset before Stephanie Mavunga and Valencia could secure the 65-61 win. Imani Tate had a good game, but Ardoi is still looking for their first win after losing to Gernika 90-61. Sedis left Lugo with a 68-64 win over Rachel Howard and Ensino. The day ended on Gran Canaria with Dominique Toussaint leading the hosts to an 82-76 win over Mariam Coulibaly and Joventut Badalona. The big game was Sunday’s opener in Salamanca where Zaragoza showed that they are title contenders with a 78-68 win over Avenida. The game in Jairis went to overtime before Ferrol could leave with an 82-80 win over Jairis. Samantha Cooper and Celta rallied late to pick up their first win 66-60 over Ibaeta. The ended with Klara Lundquist helping Girona stay perfect with a 76-61 win over Maxuella Lisowa Mbaka and Araski.

Italian League Round 5

One game in this round was on Saturday and Derthona defeated Sassari 71-61. All of the other games were at the usual Sunday time including Schio using all of their foreign player slots for the first time in a 71-59 win over Campobasso. Alpo looked all set to win, but Cornelia Fondren and Sara Roumy helped Faenza complete a dramatic comeback for an 81-79 victory. Battipaglia picked up their first win 72-58 at Brixia. That left San Martino di Lupari as the lone winless team and they nearly ended that with an upset, but Awak Kuier and Venezia prevailed 72-71 in overtime.

Hungarian League Round 6

Most of this round was played on Saturday, starting with Katrina Ozola and BEAC defeating Jovana Jevtovic and Darazsak 82-44. Virag Kiss and Gyor had an easy 102-58 win over Cegled. David Kornei’s horrific starting schedule will lighten up now that they have played all of the top half teams once, losing to Kaila Charles and DVTK 59-48. Sopron finished the day with an 88-54 win over Vasas. The first game on Sunday was between undefeated teams and Marena Whittle and Kathryn Westbeld led Szekszard to a 92-79 win over Lexi Held and PEAC. Ashten Prechtel and MTK finished the round with a 79-62 win over Szigetszentmiklos.
