Eight teams headed to Irapuato, Mexico to compete for the last four spots in next year’s AmeriCup tournament in Chile. The teams were divided into two groups for this stage, a three game round-robin that will have the top teams qualify for the semifinals and the confederation championship.
Group A
The first two games on Tuesday were in this group and there was an exciting start as Destiny Campbell and El Salvador gave favorites Puerto Rico everything that they could handle before Arella Guirantes’s brilliance led to an 82-73 win. Cuba also got a solid test from Costa Rica, but finished with a 62-49 win.

The first game in this group featured two teams that did not bring full rosters and that almost ended up being an issue when it went into overtime and Cesarina Capellan finally helped the Dominican Republic get a 95-88 win over Anisha George, Taylor Jones, and the US Virgin Islands. The hosts made sure there was no late drama, rolling past Guatemala 109-31.
