Overseas League Updates December 4th

French Cup Round of 16

The round name is a bit of a misnomer with the five EuroCup teams joining this round alongside the five winners from the last round to compete for quarterfinal spots when the three EuroLeague teams finally join. The last two second division teams tried to pull off upsets on Tuesday. Feytiat led after one quarter, but Evelyn Akhator and Landerneau controlled the rest of the game to win 79-56. Voiron stayed closer to Charleville-Mezieres longer, but Sara Chevaugeon led the visitors on the way to a 90-51 win. On Wednesday, a low-scoring game had Charnay fending off Lattes Montpellier’s late charge to escape 54-53. Murjanatu Musa led Tarbes in a 61-47 win over Chartres. Ameryst Alston and Angers started well, but Lyon built a big lead on their way to an 80-69 win.

Turkish President’s Cup

Neither team opted to rotate their lineups from the squads they chose for the league matchup ahead of Wednesday’s game at a neutral site in Ankara, the first of three trophies that the teams figure to be competing for this season. Emma Meesseman and Fenerbahce took the lead again, but Natasha Howard and Cukurova nearly pulled off a fourth quarter comeback before falling short 65-64.

Hungarian League Round 10

One game was played earlier, but the rest of this round was played on Wednesday, starting with the classic rivalry game between teams looking to return to the top and Gyor used a good fourth quarter to defeat Sopron 78-67. Also at the top of the standings, Veronika Kanyasi fired DVTK to a 97-60 win over Szekszard. PEAC is still the new entrant among the top teams, winning 89-75 at Szigetszentmiklos with Julia Reisingerova leading the way. Darazsak fell short in another attempt to get their first win with Vasas surviving 63-57. MTK had a poor start in the last game of the day, but recovered for a 79-52 win over Cegled.
