Australian League Round 8
Another round started on Wednesday with Townsville looking strong in a 98-73 win over Sydney. Ally Wilson and Perth handed Bendigo their first loss 71-68 on Thursday. Friday’s game was a good start for Adelaide as they defeated Alice Kunek and Southside 82-72. Townsville broke open a close game in the second half with an 81-48 win over Canberra. Isobel Borlase helped Adelaide start a winning streak on Sunday after their 86-73 win over Sydney. Bendigo lost again despite great games from Veronica Burton and Mariana Tolo after Bec Cole and Southside held on to a 91-88 win. A Monday game completed the round and Perth finally got to see their full lineup in action in a 96-71 win over Geelong.

Asia
With increasing cooperation between the leagues, the Japanese league All Stars traveled to South Korea for a game between the leagues on Sunday. The Korean league team, which had two Japanese players on it in the first year of the experiment to have player crossover, won the game 90-67. Earlier in the week, the Korean league had a special tournament to give bench players more playing time with the teams divided into two groups that played Tuesday through Thursday. The two group winners played on Friday with the Stars defeating Woori Bank even though Lee Min-Ji had a fantastic tournament, including a 35 point game.
All the teams in Kazakhstan’s top division played in series this week, starting with Caspiy’s sweep of Ertis on Monday and Tuesday. Turan swept Aktobe on Wednesday and Thursday. First place was on the line with Saturday and Sunday games between Astana and Okzhetpes and Astana won both games to open up a big gap in the standings.
New Zealand
The championship came down to one game on Sunday and the Whai started well in the first half and it held up for a 90-71 win over the Queens. The first season with the moved schedule is complete now and the league will try to enter its growth phase before next season’s campaign.
Around Europe
It was a cup weekend in Portugal and both of biggest games came in losses as Genesis Rivera had a 30 point effort while Ines Ramos had 31 points in an overtime defeat. Some of the second division teams that had already been eliminated played league games and Mya Burns had a 30 point outing.
Chase for Promotion
In Ukraine’s second division, Alisa Yagodka had a 23 rebound game and Kateryna Chernysh had a 30 point game. Zakyia Weathersby was the leading scorer in Turkey’s second division with 33 points while Ceren Akpinar had 30 points. Marija Cvijovic had 33 points and Jana Dinic had 21 rebounds in Serbia’s second division. In Lithuania’s second division, Kateryna Kliuchinikie had a 36 point game and Daniele Paunksnyte had a 32 point game. Anete Ozolina had a 32 point game in a double-overtime loss in Latvia’s second division while Elza Vilcane had 22 rebounds in the win. ESophia Nolan had a 31 point game in Germany’s second division.
Sevilla lost their first game so there are no longer any undefeated teams in Spain’s third division. mpoli and San Giovanni Valdarno both lost in their half of Italy’s second division so Costa Masnaga has joined them in a three-way tie at the top of the standings. Feytiat lost so Toulouse now had a two game lead in France’s second division.
Notable Individual Performances
In the Swedish league, Jessica Kelliher had 32 points and Jessica Lindstrom had 20 rebounds. Jovana Popovic had 32 points in Serbia. Andjela Rondovic had 10 steals in Montenegro. Alexus Johnson had a 25 point, 28 rebound, 12 assist triple-double in Luxembourg. Lashann Higgs had 30 points in Israel. Danni Williams had a 32 point game in the British league and her teammate Davida Dale recorded a 12 point, 13 rebound, 14 assist, 10 steal quadruple-double. Kyriaki Taylor had a 20 rebound outing in an overtime loss in Cyprus. Karolina Kirilova had a 31 point game in Bulgaria.
In Slovakia, Olga Yatskovets had a 32 point game to outscore the opposition and Alexandra Sophia Chovanikova also hit the 32 point mark in a different game. Luxol had a huge win in Malta this week with Vanya Baldacchino and Sara Fenech Pace each scoring more than the 15 points their opponents could manage. In Iceland, Randi Brown scored 32 points, which Lore Devos surpassed with 35 points and Abby Beeman had an 18 point, 13 rebound, 10 assist triple-double. Audrey Warren had a 31 point game in Finland and then Carmen Tyson-Thomas surpassed it with a 37 point effort.
