Overseas League Updates December 30th

Spanish League Round 14 December 27th-30th

The last game of Round 5 was made up on Friday and Stephanie Mavunga and Valencia rolled past Ibaeta 81-49. Half of this round was on Saturday, starting in Salamanca with Avenida’s 67-56 win over Ensino. Celta got a 72-69 win over Ferrol in their quest to get out of the danger zone. Zaragoza won 70-60 at Sedis. Angela Salvadores was brilliant in Estudiantes’s 75-63 win over Gran Canaria. The two teams at the bottom of the standings met on Sunday and Araski left with a 91-86 win over Lotta-Maj Lahtinen and Ardoi. Chloe Bibby and Girona continued rolling with a 78-63 win over Joventut Badalona. Valencia kept pace with an 82-72 win over Jairis. The last game of the round was the traditional Basque Country rivalry game on Monday that Gernika won 66-57 over Ibaeta.

The second half of the regular season in Saudi Arabia started on Saturday with Al Nassr remaining undefeated with a victory over winless Al Okhdood. Al Ahli is still behind them after a grinding out a win over Al Qadsiah. Al Ula moved ahead of Al Ittihad in the tiebreaker by winning their latest matchup.

Around Europe

It was a quiet week in Europe with many leagues taking holiday breaks. A full round in the Bosnian league included 37 and 47 point games from Natasa Sobot. Jovana Milakovic had a 21 rebound game while another matchup featured a 30 point game from Ajla Selimovic and a 22 rebound effort from her teammate Brittiney Seymour. Martha Burse had 35 points in a loss in Germany. In Israel, Alisia Jenkins had 21 rebounds and Jennie Simms had a 20 point, 12 rebound, 10 assist triple-double. In Turkey’s second division, Kurstyn Harden had a 34 point game while her teammate Yagmur Yildiz recorded a 12 point, 14 rebound, 10 assist triple-double. Edremit continues to hold a healthy lead at the start of the second half of the regular season as Channon Fluker had 32 points in their latest win.
