Spanish League Round 15 January 4th

This round was played with simultaneous tipoffs on Saturday as teams were fighting for the last spots in the Queen’s Cup, which is determined by the standings at the halfway point of the season. Zaragoza will host the event and they won 77-66 to knock Mariam Coulibaly and Joventut Badalona out of a place. Karla Erjavec and Gran Canaria slid into the last slot and left Celta at the bottom of the tiebreaker for the other spot in the danger zone as the efforts of Maimouna Haidara and Samantha Cooper were not enough in an 85-76 loss. First place after the first round-robin was also at stake as Avenida’s run continued with a 71-58 win, but Girona is still at the top of the tiebreaker. Ardoi’s 71-49 loss left them all alone at the bottom of the standings, but the win was enough for Ferrol to get a place in the cup. Frieda Buhner led Estudiantes in a 77-72 win over Ensino that got them a cup spot. Jairis’s 80-66 win over Sedis also got them a spot in the cup as they sit at the top of a tiebreaker for the bottom half of the playoff places. Araski pulled a game clear of the danger zone with a 74-50 win over their Basque Country neighbors Ibaeta. Valencia stayed in that tie for first place with a 75-68 win at Gernika.
