EuroBasket Qualifiers Round 5 February 6th

The final window of qualifiers started with games on Thursday as teams were still trying to win groups or secure one of the second place spots that will still allow them to advance to the tournament in June.

Group A

Spain officially qualified after their 76-45 win in Vienna, keeping Austria winless. That meant that both teams in Almere were looking to be one of the stronger second place teams and it was Shavonte Zellous and Croatia helping their cause greatly with a 92-65 win over Emese Hof and the Netherlands.

The winner of the game in Miskolc would still have a solid chance of advancing from this group and Hungary got the 80-50 win over Finland. Bulgaria was trying to spoil things for the more favored teams and to keep hopes of a four-way tie alive, but the efforts of Khaalia Hillsman and Borislava Hristova were not enough in Botevgrad and Eva Lisec and Slovenia left with the 94-83 win and the clearest path to win the group.

The game in Vilnius would give the winner a very good chance at advancing due to how weak the fourth place team in this group is and Lithuania just held off Poland 72-69 to grab that advantage. Belgium started a new era in Oostende with a 97-24 win over Azerbaijan, making the math simple in the final round when they play Lithuania for the top spot.
