EuroBasket Qualifiers Round 6 February 9th

Group A

Spain finished this group with a perfect record after Megan Gustafson paced them in an 81-64 win over the Netherlands in Almere. As the last tipoff of the day, Croatia had the theoretical advantage of being able to precisely measure out the margin in Gospic that they would need to advance. Early in the game, it looked like there would be no drama, but Austria narrowed the gap in the second half and only lost 65-57, stunning the hosts and leaving them short by 9 points.

Group B

Hungary looked ready to qualify early against eliminated Bulgaria in Botevgrad, but Khaalia Hillsman, Borislava Hristova, and the hosts had other ideas, forcing overtime and winning 92-89 to stun a team that thought that they would be making some noise in the main tournament. Jessica Shepard and Slovenia emphatically won their game in Ljubljana 96-47, leaving Finland wondering what happened after a good start to the cycle, but looking forward to hosting in 2027.

Group C

The game to determine who would win the group was played in Vilnius and Juste Jocyte and Lithuania looked like they were going to be able to rest for the rest of the day without watching other games, but Belgium dramatically got a 70-69 late win to clinch even though they had more than enough breathing room to be a top second place team. Lithuania did qualify and they get to host in 2027 as well. The game in Baku had no impact on qualification, but Poland defeated Azerbaijan 88-34.

Israel had their last designated home game played in Riga, losing to France 100-39. Based on previous results, Latvia probably felt that they had the chance at a big enough win in Dublin to qualify as one of the second place teams, but Claire Melia and Ireland had other ideas, impressively limiting their loss to Anete Steinberga and company 96-90.
