Overseas League Updates February 17th

Turkish League Round 23

Another round started on Saturday with Cukurova winning 65-57 at Orman. Sunday started with Jaime Nared and Erica Wheeler pacing Nesibe Aydin in a 93-81 win over Shyla Heal, Jillian Alleyne and Tarsus. Crystal Dangerfield and Kayseri made quick work of Bodrum 93-43. Istanbul rivals met and it was Dana Evans and Besiktas that got the 80-74 win over Galatasaray. Botas finished the round with a 53-46 win over Monday.

World of Basketball

Asia

The last full round of the regular season in South Korea started on Wednesday with Woori Bank’s win over the S-Birds. At the bottom of the standings, the Stars defeated Hana Bank on Thursday. BNK’s quest for the top seed stalled on Friday with their loss to the Blue Minx. The S-Birds stayed in the playoff mix on Saturday with their win over Hana Bank. Woori Bank’s win over the Stars on Sunday clinched the top seed. The Blue Minx continued to get ready for the playoffs with a win over the S-Birds on Monday.

The single site pod finished in Kazakhstan with games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Astana is still rolling while Okzhetpes edged Turan to sit in second place.

North West Tasmania

Double round weeks started in NWBU ahead of the regional league season and games played on Tuesday and then either Friday or Saturday. The Devonport Warriors are the only undefeated squad left after their two wins. Mariah Payne had a 35 point effort, the best of either round, while Nikki Parker had a 34 point game and Megan Mullings, one of the bigger name imports of recent years, had a 33 point game.

Mexico

Another four series were played over the weekend with Avispas salvaging a split in Sunday’s final game and handing the hosts their first loss after the action started on Saturday with Universidad Modelo’s win. The other three series were sweeps with Mineras picking up their first two wins and handing Dragonas their first two losses. That left the Penguins as the only winless team after losing both games to Libelulas. Mieleras is the only undefeated team after their wins over Toritas.

Around Europe

Radostina Hristova had 36 points in a loss in the Adriatic while Dragana Zubac had 37 points in a loss in the second division. In the Baltic, Egle Sventoraite had 31 points to power her team to a win over Riga, whose reserve team in the second division got a 15 steal game from Polina Tupalo. Celje defeated Triglav to win the cup in Slovenia. Sam Breen had a 30 point game in the cup in Switzerland. Vardar defeated Kam to win the cup in North Macedonia with both teams withstanding big games in the semifinals, 33 points and 20 rebounds from Audrey McElhaney and 33 points from Marija Nikolov respectively. Buducnost defeated Trebjesa to win the cup in Montenegro. Cup play in Malta featured a 40 point game from Makaila Napoleon. Olympiacos dispatched their rivals in the cup semifinals in Greece and then defeated PAS Giannina, which withstood a 34 point game from Camryn Taylor in their semifinal.

Chase for Promotion

In Ukraine’s second division, Viktoria Shmatova had a 38 point game and 15 year old Polina Tambovtseva had a 30 point game. Asia Strong was the high scorer in Turkey’s second division with 37 points while Doniyah Cliney turned in a 30 point effort. Faith Simpson grabbed 24 and 25 rebounds on consecutive nights in Romania’s second division. Portugal’s second division’s regional phase finished with Sporting finishing undefeated in the South after Hannah Pratt’s 27 points were more than the 22 that their opponents could manage. Coimbroes took the top spot in the North while another game saw Jenna Mastellone pour in 43 points. In Lithuania’s second division, Daniele Pakulyte had 42 points and Aurelija Jurkiene had 24 rebounds.

Notable Individual Performances

In Sweden, Cecilia Holmberg and Bendu Yeaney both had 30 point games. Olga Yatskovets had a 30 point game in Slovakia. Dunja Buzadzin had a 32 point game in Serbia. Reagan Bradley had 37 points in an overtime loss in Norway. Irina Nebesnaia had a 31 point game in Moldova. Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu had a 34 point game in Luxembourg. Paris Mullins had a 32 point game in Cyprus. In Croatia, Khrystyna Kulesha had 32 points and Meghan Boyd had 30 points, helping their team withstand 31 points from Andela Strize to win. Ajla Selimovic had a 30 point game in the Bosnian league while Natasa Sobot had 42 points in a loss. Bernada Rreshpja had a 40 point game in Albania, but her team lost as Aniylah Bryant had 34 points and Jainaya Jones recorded a 16 point, 15 rebound, 11 assist triple-double.

A double-round week in Israel concluded the double round-robin there as Ariel Hearn had 33 points and Jennie Simms recorded a 37 point, 13 rebound, and 15 assist triple-double on the first day. The second day of games included 30 points from IImar’I Thomas and 21 rebounds from Emily Engstler. An incredible weekend of games in Iceland included a 22 rebound effort from Maddie Sutton, 36 points in a loss from Randi Brown after Abby Beeman secured the win with 34 points and 15 assists, and 34 points for Jasmine Dickey. Hailey Leidel had 30 points in Germany while Cassidy Mihalko had 32 points in an overtime win. In Finland, Chanin Rahming had 31 points and Re’Shawna Stone had 30 points to get their team a win. Shyia Smith grabbed 20 rebounds and Saana Kujala had a 39 point game.
