Overseas League Updates February 23rd

Spanish League Round 22

The last game from Round 19 was played on Wednesday and Sedis pulled out of the tie for teams in the danger zone with a 77-70 win over Mariam Coulibaly and Joventut Badalona. This round started in Salamanca on a busy Saturday and Girona got a 76-67 win over Avenida. Ibaeta took a step towards safety with a 65-59 win over Celta, leaving the visitors in the danger zone. Jairis continued to make life difficult for the top four teams and got past Zaragoza 77-76. Ardoi is running out of time after losing to Maxuella Lisowa Mbaka and Araski 86-57. Ensino has plenty of momentum towards safety after Claudia Soriano led them to a 92-86 win over Ferrol. Valencia looked frightening at full strength in a 102-49 win over Gernika. On Sunday, Bella Murekatete and Sedis gave themselves more of a cushion for safety, winning 72-70 and preventing Estudiantes from giving themselves breathing room for the playoffs. Joventut Badalona finished the round with a 67-58 win over Gran Canaria.

Turkish League Round 23

This round started on Friday with Emlak Konut’s 93-48 win over Bodrum. On Saturday, Nesibe Aydin edged Manolya Kurtulmus and Orman 70-68. The momentum was pointing in one direction, but Cukurova’s early lead held up in a 72-66 win over Fenerbahce, a big help towards their seeding aspirations as both teams figure to battle it out on multiple fronts. On Sunday, Besiktas was able to rest players ahead of their chance to stay in continental contention while rolling past Shyla Heal and Tarsus 100-70. Galatasaray finally built a lead in the second half to defeat Bursa Ant 78-63.

Chartres started well in this round’s opener on Friday, but Charleville-Mezieres seized the lead by halftime on their way to an 83-72 win. On Saturday, Nausia Woolfolk and Landerneau started well in their quest to get into a playoff position, but Roche came back for a 68-67 win that could help them in the playdowns. Laura Mendez and Angers stayed in contention for playoff hosting with an 85-80 win over Leila Lacan and Landes. On Sunday, Laura Quevedo and Lyon started the day with a 72-56 win over Tarbes. Amy Okonkwo and Bourges came back late to defeat Jasmine Bailey and Lattes Montpellier in their quest to lock up the top seed early. Carla Leite continued to lead Villeneuve-d’Ascq, but they lost to Charnay 66-59.

Aleksandra Mielnicka led Sleza Wroclaw in an 80-62 win over Taylor Soule and Zaglebie Sosnowiec. Laura Miskiniene and Magdalena Szymkiewicz were a potent combo for Lublin in a 93-84 win over Gorzow. Lauren Ebo and Tai’Sheka Porchia helped Bydgoszcz wear down the inside depth of Polkowice in a 109-62 win over Julia Jeziorna and company. Polonia Warszawa pushed to climb out of last place on Sunday with a 68-61 win over Savannah Wheeler and Torun, which hurt its chances at moving up a spot.

Hungarian League Round 19

Most of this round was on Saturday, including Lexi Held helping PEAC take the lead early to knock DVTK out of the lead 69-63. An overtime thriller saw Aijha Blackwell and Cegled prevail 91-87 over Szigetszentmiklos and the trio of Hannah Little, Tayler Mingo, and Zita Vari. Barbara Angyal and Debora Dubei helped Gyor take sole possession of first place with a 99-54 win over Vasas. Sopron sits behind them after a 96-71 win over Mar’Shay Moore and BEAC. Ashten Prechtel and MTK kept the rest of the top half from pulling too far away from them with a 70-58 win over Sara Bejedi and Szekszard. A big game from Dora Toman was not enough for Darazsak to get their first win as they lost to Precious Johnson and David Kornei 94-61.

Rae Lin D’Alie and San Martino Di Lupari edged Campobasso 64-63. Venezia officially moved back into first place with their 93-66 win over Marzia Tagliamento and Brixia. The combination of Cornelia Fondren and Sara Roumy helped Faenza get a 73-62 win over Tinara Moore and Sesto San Giovanni.
