WNBA Rookies Watch – The first Two Months of the WNBA Regular Season

Saniya Rivers of the Connecticut Sun

The first two months of the WNBA regular season are now over, and it is now time for an update for the 2025 edition of the WNBA Rookies Watch. I last wrote a WNBA Rookies Watch blog post regarding the first month of the WNBA regular season. You can read it here. Now, that the first two months of the season are now over and WNBA All-Star weekend has wrapped up, it is now time to see which 5 rookies stood out in the first two months of the WNBA regular season.

*Note – These are games played from July 2nd to July 16th, 2025*

  1. Paige Bueckers – G, Dallas Wings

In the final five games before the WNBA All-Star weekend, Paige Bueckers continues to be the top rookie so far. She averaged 18.4 points per game, 4.8 assists per game and 3.2 rebounds per game. She shot 50% or more from three-point range in three games. However, she did struggle shooting from mid-range and shot under 40% in three of them. In the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, she played 22 minutes for Team Collier and finished with 6 points and 8 assists.

2. Saniya Rivers – G, Connecticut Sun

Saniya Rivers was incredible in the final five games before the WNBA All-Star weekend. She averaged 12.2 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, 2.4 steals per game and 3 assists per game. She shot the ball from 40% or more from mid-range in three of the five games and shot 40% or more from three-point range in two of the five games.

3. Kiki Iriafen – F, Washington Mystics

Kiki Iriafen slowed down after getting off to a hot start in the first month of the season but was still able to put up two double-double performances in the final five games before the All-Star weekend. She shot 40% or more in three of the five games. Her rebound rate was very impressive. It was 8.6 rebounds per game. In the WNBA All-Star Game, she was very impressive. She played for 23 minutes and finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds for Team Clark.

4. Sonia Citron – G, Washington Mystics

Just like Kiki Iriafen, Sonia Citron also slowed down after getting off to a hot start but still managed to be effective. She averaged 10.8 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. She still shot the ball from 40% or better from mid-range in three of the five games and 40% or more from three-point range in two of the five games before the All-Star weekend. In the All-Star Game, she played for 21 minutes and finished with 11 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists for Team Clark.

5. Aneesah Morrow – F, Connecticut Sun

Aneesah Morrow has stepped up and is now trying her best to help out the Connecticut Sun. Just like Saniya Rivers, she scored in double figures in three of the five games before the WNBA All-Star weekend. She rebounded with 6 rebounds per game and shot 40% or more from mid-range in two of the five games.

Honourable mention: Janelle Salaun, Golden State Valkyries, Monique Akoa Makani, Phoenix Mercury, JJ Quinerly, Dallas Wings

These five rookies stood out before the WNBA All-Star weekend break and we shall see if they can continue to do so. As I’ve previously mentioned before, being a WNBA rookie can be extremely difficult because they may not receive proper playing time or no playing time at all or limited playing time. The second half of the season will begin shortly and it will be interesting to see which top five rookies can shine or will there be new rookies who can step up.
