Turkish League Round 27

The round started on Saturday with Kiana Williams and Channon Fluker helping Bursa take a big step towards safety with a 70-67 win over Nesibe Aydin. Fenerbahce took advantage of being able to field the trio of Kayla McBride, Napheesa Collier, and Natasha Howard in their 97-87 win over Dearica Hamby and Kayseri. Orman continued to sit behind them after Sug Sutton and Michaela Onyenwere helped them prevail 78-76 in overtime against Feyonda Fitzgerald and company.

On Sunday, Besiktas had bigger upcoming games on their mind, resting their main foreign players as much as possible and letting Zumrut Karahan cook in the paint with some help from Sugranur Sonmez and Kristina Topuzovic’s triple-double to defeat Hatay, which only played its starters again led by Nuran Tutsak and Betul Kutlu, 127-89. Botas stayed in the final playoff spot behind the trio of Lindsay Allen, Taya Reimer, and Lyndra Weaver, keeping Tarsus in danger 80-74 despite an excellent game from Khadijiah Cave. Cankaya University is also still on the wrong side of the cutoff even though they got good efforts from Brooke McCarty-Williams, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, and Melike Yalcinkaya to keep the game tied at halftime because NaLyssa Smith and Teaira McCowan put on an absolute clinic in the post and Galatasaray won 113-99. Antalya could not move another game clear of danger even with Jaelyn Brown and Destanni Henderson leading the way as Khaalia Hillsman, Sierra Calhoun, and Jaime Nared led Izmit to a 102-79 win.

Spanish League Round 23

A busy Saturday started with Girona making a signing to fill the hole left by injury, but losing 74-52 to Valencia. Zaragoza defeated Ibaeta 70-60. Marena Whittle helped Estudiantes coast to a 72-49 win over Bembibre. In Salamanca, Avenida defeated Jairis 76-58. The playoff spots got more crowded after the game in Lugo after Ensino defeated Stephanie Watts and Gernika 78-60. It took two overtimes to end the day and Veronika Remenarova and Sedis came back to win 89-83 against Araski. The two league newcomers met to start Sunday and it was Celta getting the 83-78 overtime win over Ferrol behind Murjanatu Musa and Clementine Samson. That result ended up being critical to maintaining the gap above danger because Astou Ndour and Gran Canaria had a big 75-45 win over Barcelona.
