AmeriCup Day 1 July 1st

The tournament began with group play in Leon, Mexico on Saturday. The 10 teams are divided into 2 groups with 4 games played over 5 days. The top 4 teams in each group make the knockout stage that starts on Friday. In addition to the confederation championship, there are 2 direct qualifying spots open for the Olympic qualifying tournament. The United States, which has already qualified for the Olympics, will participate in that tournament. 4 teams will advance to the tournament for the last places in Olympic qualifying.

Group A:

The games in this group opened the day and Brazil had an easy 92-53 win over Cuba. As has been the case since they had to play in this tournament again, the United States has fielded top college players and they cruised to an 80-54 win over Venezuela.
