EuroLeague Qualifiers Game 1 September 20th

There were three more teams that met competition criteria than the number of available places so two game series had to be played with first games on Wednesday and the return games next Wednesday. In Sfantu Gheorghe, Sepsi was looking to get over a familiar obstacle while Latvia’s Riga has tremendous history at the top level of Europe. The visitors held the lead, but the Romanians controlled the fourth quarter to win 59-54 behind Borislava Hristova and have a little breathing room for the next game. Besiktas does not have the squad that they would take the court with if they advanced, but started well in Turkey behind Jovana Nogic. Polkowice settled in and took the lead, holding on to a 58-57 margin for when they get to host in Poland. London Lions continues to harbor ambitions for both their team and the whole sport in Great Britain, but they faded late and DVTK will bring home the biggest lead of any team as they lead 63-48 before the game in Hungary.
