Australian League Round 10 January 3rd-7th
There were two games on Wednesday in this round, starting with the city rivals squaring off in a game where Melbourne defeated Southside 67-61. A fun game had Perth starting well and getting big games from the trio of Amy Atwell, Anneli Maley, and Miela Goodchild, but Mikaela Ruef and Townsville were strong for the rest of the game on their way to a 104-91 win. On Friday, Adelaide looked ready to slump to another defeat against DiDi Richards and Sydney, but instead had an impressive late rally to win 74-67. Canberra defeated Southside 75-65 on Saturday. All the remaining teams were in action on a busy Sunday, starting with Melbourne’s 62-55 win over Sydney. Stephanie Reid led Townsville in an 86-72 win over Bendigo. Isobel Borlase was impressive for Adelaide, but Emily Potter and Perth won 84-68.

Another round started on Saturday with Chloe Bibby and Gorzow defeating Keishana Washington and Torun 88-63. Polkowice matched them and remained in the lead in the loss column after Brianna Fraser led them to an 82-48 win over Bydgoszcz. Sunday started with Lublin’s 76-52 win over Poznan. Arka Gdynia defeated Zaglebie Sosnowiec 93-61 in the next game. Angel Baker and Sleza Wroclaw finished the round by handing Pruszkow another loss 86-48.

Spanish League Round 16 January 6th-7th
The second half of the regular season started on Saturday with Valencia maintaining their lead after a 72-59 win over Gernika. One game was moved to later in the month, but the rest of the contests were played on Sunday and the noon game was in Salamanca with Avenida defeating Ibaeta 81-50. Marta Hermida and Araski avoided falling into a gap in the hunt for the playoffs with a 72-65 win over Girona. Two teams that reached this level together last season battled to move further away from the danger zone and it was Jairis that defeated Barcelona 64-57. Gala Mestres and Ferrol nearly recorded an impressive win, but Zaragoza recovered for a 71-69 win. Estudiantes moved up to fourth place after Stephanie Mawuli led them to a 61-47 win over Celta. The day ended in Lugo with Sedis leaving with a 69-62 win over Ensino.

The league took as long a holiday break as possible and played this round on Sunday, starting with Landes’s 79-65 win over Bourges. Both teams made moves during the break, but it was Masseny Kaba and Angers that got a 77-61 win over Saint-Amand. Villeneuve-d’Ascq missed a chance to get back into a tie for the league lead, losing to a much healthier Tarbes team 67-63. Amy Okonkwo and Landerneau were impressive in an 82-72 win over Lattes Montpellier as they try engineer an escape in the second half of the season. Roche was the latest team to have a crisis to deal with during the break and a good game from Assitan Kone still left them short 85-59 against Marine Johannes and Lyon. Charleville-Mezieres had health and a new signing to look forward to after the break, but Charnay’s impressive start continued with a 71-64 win.

Oderah Chidom and Ragusa started the day with an upset, knocking out Bologna 76-67. Venezia rolled to a 75-44 win over Brixia. Sesto San Giovanni also pulled off a seeding upset after Valeria Trucco grabbed a truckload of rebounds in their 53-43 win over Campobasso. The last game saw Schio coast to an 81-72 win over Oxygen Roma to secure the final spot in the February deciding tournament.
