2027 WNBA Mock Draft 1.0

JuJu Watkins

Today, we conclude the WNBA Mock Drafts with the first ever version of the 2027 WNBA Mock Draft. I released 2025 WNBA Mock Draft 3.0 and 2026 WNBA Mock Draft 2.0 last week.

These players are in their freshmen season. They are still getting adjusted to playing on a college team. Some players get big minutes to play, while others do not. Due to the fact that these players are just freshmen, there will be four more versions of this draft that will be released in the following years. One that will be released next year during their sophomore season. In two years, one will be released during their junior season. One version will be released during their earlier months of their senior season and the final version will be released in three years from now which is April 2027.

  1. Is there any reason why Zhang Ziyu was left out? Sure, Ziyu won’t play in college, but she will play 2 seasons of Chinese pro-hoops by that point.

Personally, I would say that the first overall pick will play out between JuJu Watkins and Zhang Ziyu. The biggest 2 factors are the following:

    • The 2026 senior World Cup: JuJu may not play at the World Cup, but Ziyu definitely will, and if Ziyu plays well at the World Cup (against WNBA talent and at WNBA speeds) it will show the league how she can perform at the highest levels of women’s basketball. However, if Ziyu plays poorly at the WC, then Ziyu may not be taken at #1 or even #2.
    • Whether the team at #1 then will have bigger frontcourt or backcourt needs: if the team at #1 has bigger frontcourt needs, they will lean towards Ziyu, otherwise JuJu.
