Olympic Qualifying Game 2 February 9th

Sopron

Depending on location, the second games were on Friday or Saturday and this group opened Friday’s play. The margins were supposed to be close in Sopron and it showed with Spain getting a 60-55 win over Canada after giving up their halftime lead. The standings got even closer after the second game when Hungary defeated Japan 81-75. Sunday’s games will decide everything with the winners of Canada-Japan and Spain-Hungary qualifying while the third spot will be determined by the head-to-head result of the teams that lose.

Antwerp

In sharp contrast, this group was expected to be settled after the second set of games and that is what happened. The United States had an easier time than their first game, rolling past Nigeria 100-46. Emma Meesseman and Belgium bounced back from disappointment with a 97-66 win over Yacine Diop and Senegal, sending themselves through along with Nigeria. Sunday’s games will have no bearing on qualification.
