Australian League Round 15 February 15th-18th

The first round after the international break started on Thursday with Kelsey Griffin and Alicia Froling leading Bendigo to an 85-77 win over Canberra. Saturday’s result was a surprise after an Adelaide side that had nothing to play for defeated Melbourne 70-61. A busy Sunday started with Southside sealing homecourt advantage to start the playoffs with an 81-78 win over DiDi Richards, Lauren Nicholson, and Sydney. Ally Wilson and Kelsey Griffin helped Bendigo continue their late surge with a 93-60 win over Townsville. It came too late, but Aari McDonald and Anneli Maley helped Perth stop their slide with a 94-79 win over Gemma Potter and Canberra.

Italian Cup Final Four February 16th-18th

With the change in the cup format this season, the semifinals were played on Friday to fit alongside the men’s tournament’s schedule. Venezia had a fast start, but nearly let Sesto San Giovanni pull off the upset before recovering for a 56-52 win. Laura Juskaite and Ragusa had an upset on their minds, but Arella Guirantes had the better of the rest of the game for a 67-58 win to set up the expected matchup. The final was on Sunday and league leaders Venezia were looking to maintain the psychological edge on the chase pack, but Schio showed that they will be a threat at the end of the campaign with Robyn Parks leading them to an 81-68 win.

French League Round 16 February 18th

The round was fully played on Sunday to create the longest international break possible and now current points deductions are reflected in the standings. Lyon did not cool down at all, getting a fabulous game from Gabby Williams and Marine Johannes fired away in their 92-74 win over Romane Bernies and Lattes Montpellier to open up a gap between the thirds of the league now clear in the standings. Landes had the lineup that they started the season with again and Kendra Chery led them to a 75-61 win over Tarbes. Bourges also rolled to a big win, defeating Saint-Amand 83-57. League leaders VIlleneuve-d’Ascq put on a show in a 106-66 win over Angers. Landerneau suffered the most from points deductions, but Evelyn Akhator led them in scoring and Virginie Bremont had a triple-double and they defeated Charleville-Mezieres 79-75. Roche was already struggling plenty before punishment and Tiffany Clarke’s strong game was not nearly enough in their 96-82 loss to Shakayla Thomas, Monique Akoa, and Charnay.
