Overseas League Updates March 24th

Spanish Cup March 21st-24th

The Queen’s Cup was played in Huelva this year and started with two quarterfinals on Thursday. Valencia defeated Ibaeta 63-55 in the first game. Estudiantes was impressive in the other game, using a strong second half to defeat Girona 72-49. The other two quarterfinals were on Friday as Arica Carter and Alexis Prince teamed up to lead Avenida to a 66-56 win over Gernika. Defending champions Zaragoza started the defense of their trophy with a 75-49 win over Ferrol. Valencia lost a key player before their semifinal on Saturday, but still won 77-50 against Estudiantes. The rematch of last year’s final ended up going the same way as Zaragoza jumped out to a quick lead on their way to a 73-61 win over Avenida. The final was on Sunday and Valencia started fast, rolling past Zaragoza 77-53 to secure their second trophy of the season.

French League Round 20 March 22nd-24th

The round started on Friday with Pauline Astier and Bourges defeating Charleville-Mezieres 89-68. Saturday started with a battle of the Djaldi-Tabdi sisters and it was Landes that got past Kayana Traylor and Charnay 92-76. Angers defeated Roche 65-61. Lyon’s slide continued with a 70-59 loss to Saint-Amand. On Sunday, Janelle Salaun and Villeneuve-d’Ascq exploded out of the halftime break to get past Amy Okonkwo, Nausia Woolfolk, and Landerneau 90-75. Lattes Montpellier sent a large crowd home happy with an 82-58 win over Tarbes.

Italian League Round 22 March 23rd-24th

The round started on Saturday with Ivana Raca and Ashley Joens leading Sassari in an 83-72 win over Ciera Johnson and Battipaglia. The other game had Dorka Juhasz pacing Schio in an 87-68 win over Brixia. A big game from Quinn Dornstauder was not enough for Sanga Milano to pick up a win on Sunday, losing to Oxygen Roma 71-60. Nina Dedic helped Campobasso move back to a favorable playoff position with a 78-72 win over Faenza. Venezia made a signing for the stretch run and defeated Sesto San Giovanni 71-58. Ragusa stifled San Martino di Lupari in the second half for a 57-44 win.
