I was pondering on whether or not I should release another version of the upcoming WNBA Draft due to the ongoing negotiations between the WNBPA (WNBA Players Association) and the WNBA and whether or not there will be an upcoming WNBA season. Even though the WNBA CBA deadline will expire, they will enter into a period of “status quo” which could mean a strike from the players. However, this recent article from ESPN says that there is still hope for both sides to get a deal done and that there will be a 2026 WNBA season.
The 2026 WNBA Draft is filled with so many terrific college and international draft prospects. Over the years, I first started compiling the drafts three years ago, when they were freshmen. At that time, Ta’Niya Latson played for Florida State before transferring to South Carolina for her senior season. She was a terrific scorer and started her freshman season very nicely so I had her as the #1 overall draft pick. The next year, when the players were in their sophomore seasons, Reagan Beers played for Oregon State and started compiling double-doubles on a daily basis. She later transferred to Oklahoma during her junior season. I had her as the #1 overall draft pick because she played so well. Last year, when the players were in their junior seasons, Lauren Betts of UCLA improved her game and started to play at an elite level that made her stand out from among her fellow draft prospects so I made her the #1 overall draft pick.
In those WNBA mock drafts, you will notice that there’s no international draft prospects. I’ve included them in this latest WNBA mock draft and you will also notice that there was no mention of Azzi Fudd (UConn) or Olivia Miles (TCU). This is because I thought they were going to enter the WNBA last year and not stay for an additional year in college. They were included in the 2025 WNBA Mock Drafts. You will also notice that there will be two new WNBA expansion teams for the 2026 season. The Toronto Tempo will make history as the first WNBA team to play in Canada and the Portland Fire returns to Portland after they played for three seasons and then folded in 2022. They will be the 14th and the 15th team in the WNBA.
