My WNBA coverage for the 2026 season – THIRTY SEASONS!

Women's Basketball Blog

The WNBA season will tip off in less than one week from now and I wanted to inform all of my blog followers and readers of what to expect from me in terms of WNBA coverage this season.

First of all, I cannot believe that the league will play it’s 30th season and that one of the franchises is located in my country which is Canada. That is amazing. I was a WNBA fan for 8 years (from 2008 to 2016) and then became a WNBA blogger & freelance writer following the 2016 season. I hope the Toronto fans show strong support so that the league can expand even further and come to Vancouver, British Columbia, because that is also a truly beautiful and popular Canadian city and it would make West Coast fans very happy.

I will continue to track the WNBA rookies who have made the opening day rosters with with a weekly WNBA rookies watch. I will discuss which rookies perform well such as Azzi Fudd of the Dallas Wings, Olivia Miles of the Minnesota Lynx and Awa Fam of the Seattle Storm. This will be my third season in doing so. You can check out last year’s versions here. I created the WNBA rookies watch because while they were amazing in college and on top of my NCAA women’s college basketball players rankings, it’s now time to see them face off against their fellow rookies, veterans, stars and superstars. It’s completely different. It’s not the same. The pressure is higher to succeed. Who will do it and become Rookie of the Year or on the All-WNBA team? We shall find out.

Finally, while there is a team in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Toronto Tempo), I was denied press credentials for this season. That hurts. I wanted to sit in press row among fellow journalists and members of media and write about the Tempo for select home games. I was going to put my Tempo blog posts in a subscriber based subscription and only allow Toronto Tempo fans to read them. I was going to commute downtown and finally watch WNBA games in an arena and not fly across the ocean to watch the games. I’ve been a part of important WNBA events such as the WNBA All-Star game last year and was part of the media members allowed to cover the first ever WNBA Canada Game back in 2023.

I need to make this clear and I will make it through my blog post. I am not a Toronto Tempo fan. I am a WNBA blogger who lives in Toronto and wants to attend games. I’ve worked hard and to see it not come true hurts. This is my side-hustle. I will continue to respect the traditional media members and other sites that were allowed access. I’ve been doing this since 2017 which is almost a decade. I wish the best of luck to the Tempo in their inaugural season and I will still be active on Threads and Bluesky where I will live-thread or live-post two WNBA games per week. (One on Threads and one on Bluesky)

Best regards,

Aneela K
