Israeli League Round 1 October 20th

The season started on Thursday with a full slate of games and statistics from the league may not be fully reliable yet. Elitzur Ramla had the advantage of competitive games as Shakira Austin led them past Jillian Alleyne and Maccabi Ramat Gan 81-74. A late withdrawal from the league almost meant an odd number of teams, but the opening left teams in the second division being allowed to apply and the team that wanted to make the jump was an old name in basketball circles in ASA Jerusalem. Having to assemble a roster late in the process, they leaned heavily on the three players they chose for their import slots and Danielle Adams, Taylor Wurtz, and Shay Colley were all excellent in their 96-82 winning return. Ramat Hasharon was able to use a different lineup from their continental games and Jazmine Jones worked well with Alisia Jenkins, but it was not enough. Kalani Brown could not be stopped and she got some help from Shatori Walker-Kimbrough to get Maccabi Ashdod past Mikayla Cowling and Hapoel Petah Tikva 82-76. A full account of the game is not available, but neither team was at full strength when Sydney Zambrotta and Breanna Richardson teamed up to help Herzliya surprise Elitzur Holon 83-58. Amy Okonkwo had a big game for Maccabi Haifa in their 74-68 win over Kaila Charles and Hapoel Rishon Lezion.
