French League Round 8 January 7th-8th
Only a pair of games in the first round after the break were on the traditional Saturday as Angers won 85-77 against Toulouse. Landerneau made a roster move in an effort to escape danger, but a good game from Rennia Davis was not enough as Oderah Chidom led Saint-Amand again, this time to an 88-72 win. An important game started Sunday’s action as Yvonne Anderson and Bourges were able to hand Marine Johannes and Lyon their first loss 88-77. Marieme Badiane and Lattes Montpellier made sure that Regan Magarity and Landes could not get closer to the top third with an 80-70 win. Not all of the games in this round were scheduled for this weekend so it concluded with Charleville-Mezieres’s 72-60 win over Tarbes.

Sopron pulled away from Morgan Green and BEAC in the second half to win 79-62.

Ragusa continued to rise up the standings with a 79-53 win over Brixia. Robyn Parks and Marie-Michelle Milapie helped Campobasso nearly pull off an upset before losing to Jessica Shepard and Venezia 81-80. A battle of teams hoping to steer towards safety saw Crema win 74-69 over Giulia Natali and Lucca. Cheyenne Parker paced Bologna in an 80-57 win over San Martino di Lupari.

This round started on Saturday with Weronika Telenga and Polkowice’s 90-66 win over Bydgoszcz. A fantastic effort from Jessica Jackson started Sunday action with Polonia Warszawa winning 77-72 against Lublin. Good games from Jennifer Coleman and Batabe Zempare were not enough for Zaglebie Sosnowiec as Stephanie Jones paced Sleza Wroclaw in a 78-75 win. Agnieszka Skobel and Poznan won 94-81 against Magdalena Parysek-Bochniak and Pruszkow 94-81. Gorzow demonstrated that they are still a step ahead of the chase pack after an 81-54 win over Arka Gdynia.

A full round of games was played on Sunday, starting with a Jairis comeback for a 73-70 win over Ibaeta. Avenida won 76-62 at Zaragoza to leave the hosts a little short of looking like title contenders after their strong start. Sedis had an incredible fourth quarter to leave Lugo with an 81-62 win over Alba Prieto and Ensino. Girona is still at the top of the standings after their strong second half carried them to a 72-62 win over Alexy Mollenhauer and Estudiantes. Valencia kept pace by crushing Araski 96-43. Aisha Sheppard had a good game for Tenerife, but it was not enough in their 85-53 loss to Bembibre. Barcelona moved back to the first spot behind the top teams after a 64-61 win over Gernika. The last game of the day went into overtime before Gran Canaria prevailed 73-71 to leave Marta Hermida and Leganes one game clear of safety.

Turkish League Round 14 January 7th-8th
A new round started on Saturday and opened with a Cankaya University comeback to edge Merritt Hempe and Nesibe Aydin 67-65. The two newly promoted teams met and Rize was much more competitive with a strong debut from Jaelyn Brown, but Nirra Fields and company still won 71-68. Bursa managed to fill all of the foreign player spots in time for their game, but were a little behind Hatay in getting their roster set and that helped the hosts win 79-73 behind Egle Sventoraite and Destiny Slocum. Azura Stevens led Galatasaray to a 79-59 win over Antalya. Even with Fenerbahce bringing Breanna Stewart into the lineup, Cukurova holds the psychological edge in the league as Chelsea Gray helped them pull away late for a 77-68 win. The first game on Sunday went to overtime after Orman’s second half comeback and they edged Erica McCall and Botas 78-75. Dana Evans was brilliant for Besiktas again, rallying them for an 84-81 win over Lyndra Weaver, Juicy Landrum, and Kayseri.
