The quarterfinals were all played on Thursday with the winners also securing spots in the Olympic qualifying tournaments. The first game was between teams who were not necessarily predicted to reach this stage and Hungary had a lead, but surrendered it late and then just did enough to hold off Natalie Stoupalova and the Czech Republic 62-61. A game that was expected to be interesting ended up with no doubts as Emma Meesseman had a triple-double and Belgium eliminated Yvonne Anderson and defending champions Serbia 93-53. France had not looked to be at their best in the group stage, but Marieme Badiane led them to a decisive 89-46 win over Montenegro. Spain jumped out to a lead in the last game of the day to defeat Germany 67-42. All of the teams get another day of rest before Saturday’s semifinals and the two games that will give their winners the last spots in Olympic qualifying.
