AmeriCup Semifinals July 8th

The semifinals were played on Saturday, starting with a matchup that had provided plenty of entertainment in recent years. Wary of the threat that Puerto Rico poised having been kept off the global stage for so long, Brazil did not carry over the momentum from a strong tournament so far early, but rallied behind Damiris Dantas to get the 85-74 win over Arella Guirantes and company. Canada knew that their bracket placement was difficult despite breezing through their group and it showed early. They made several runs in the second half, putting themselves in the lead for part of the fourth quarter, but the United States did enough to win 67-63. That result means that Brazil qualifies directly for the Olympic Qualifying tournaments in February.
