The quarterfinals were played on Friday with teams looking to advance and set their places in the Olympic qualifying process. The United States started fast on their way to a 68-49 win over Colombia. The next game was a thriller as Venezuela came back again to force overtime with Mariana Duran helping Daniela Wallen, but Arella Guirantes and Jazmon Gwathmey making sure that Puerto Rico recovered in the extra frame and won 89-86. After an impressive group stage, Canada could not quite separate from Argentina, but advanced 68-60 with Nirra Fields seizing the initiative. Brazil built up their lead in the second half to knock out hosts Mexico 83-61. If the United States defeats Canada, then the winner of the other semifinal will take the other spot in Olympic qualifying. If Canada wins, then the spot will not be determined until the conclusion of the tournament, going to the champion.
