WNBA Rookies Watch – Final stretch of the regular season.

Grace Berger of the Indiana Fever.

Welcome back everyone! We are now in the final stretch of the regular season and it is now time for Week 7 update of the WNBA Rookies Watch. You can view the sixth week here.

WNBA Rookies Watch – Final stretch of the Regular Season

*Note – This WNBA rookie watch will be updated every two weeks instead of every week. This is because in the WNBA, there are a limited number of roster spots and so rookies have to compete with veterans/star players for spots. A majority of them either get cut, get limited minutes or need time to get adjusted. Their minutes will vary from game to game, opponent to opponent. It will be hard to find consistent minutes and so it won’t be easy to judge rookies on a week to week basis. I’m updating this every two weeks so that I have several games and data(!) to work with.

  1. Aliyah Boston – Indiana Fever

Aliyah Boston has continued to remain steady and it is becoming quite clear who is the favourite for this year’s WNBA Rookie of the Year award. She posted two double-doubles in Indiana’s loss to the Washington Mystics and Indiana’s win against Seattle. Against the Mystics, she finished the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Against the Storm, she finished the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Fever picked up two more wins against Phoenix and Atlanta and Boston was able to be a key contributor.

2. Diamond Miller – Minnesota Lynx

Diamond Miller continues to remain sharp and put some spectacular performances in Minnesota’s latest stretch of games. In Minnesota’s loss against New York, she finished the game with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. The following game versus Washington, she finished with 25 points which ties her career high. She also finished with 25 points earlier in the season at Phoenix. She continues to shine night after night and is a true contender to be on the WNBA Rookie Team.

3. Jordan Horston – Seattle Storm

Jordan Horston remains steady as a contributor for the Seattle Storm. Although she did not shoot well from the field and only scoring 3 points, she finished the game with 11 rebounds and 4 assists. She continues to help out the Storm and remains a good rebounder. She is also a true contender to be on the WNBA Rookie Team.

4. Grace Berger – Indiana Fever

Grace Berger gets to be a part of this week’s WNBA Rookies Watch because she was able to help the Indiana Fever out on in their latest stretch of games in which the Fever went 3-1. Alongside Aliyah Boston, she finished the game with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists against Seattle. In the following game versus Atlanta, she finished the game with 12 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists.

5. Maddy Siegrist – Dallas Wings

Maddy Siegrist has helped the Dallas Wings and deserves some kind of consideration to be on the All Rookie Team. In Dallas’s road win versus Washington, she shot 71.4% from the field and finished the game with 11 points and 2 rebounds. In Dallas’s home loss versus Minnesota, she finished the game with 9 points and 2 assists.

That wraps up this week’s WNBA Rookies Watch. We are now drawing close to the conclusion of the WNBA regular season in which WNBA teams are fighting for playoff spots so the continuation of good games will continue. The final WNBA Rookies Watch will be out on September 7th.
