Overseas League Updates January 21st

Spanish League Round 18 January 17th-21st

The last game from Round 16 was played on Wednesday and it was the best remaining opportunity for a win for Gran Canaria at home against last place Bembibre. The timing also allowed one of the club’s greatest successes to make her return to play alongside Jade Loville and win 75-69. This round started on Saturday with Ferrol’s 72-53 win over Araski. A game that turned into a grinder in the fourth quarter saw Girona still leave with a 65-56 win over Estudiantes. Celta made another step towards safety with a 79-68 win over Sedis. Avenida defeated Bembibre 86-60. In Lugo, Ensino looked likely to lose to Valencia, but Imani Tate helped them have an incredible fourth quarter to win 66-62. Stephanie Watts and Roso Buch helped Gernika end the day by cruising past Delicia Washington and Gran Canaria 98-59. There were two early games on Sunday, starting with Zaragoza 71-67 win over Jairis. Barcelona is now the team feeling heat in the last safe spot after losing to Erin Whalen and Ibaeta 77-55.

Polish League Round 17 January 19th-21st

This round started with two Friday games and Anna Pawlowska and Polonia Warszawa remained in the hunt for the last playoff spot with a 66-63 win over KeKe Calloway and Bydgoszcz. Torun, the other team looking for the postseason, lost to Lexi Held and Sleza Wroclaw 83-52. Saturday started with Stephanie Mavunga leading Polkowice in an 85-65 win over Poznan. Lublin nearly recovered from a terrible start against Arka Gdynia, but came up short 81-80. Zaglebie Sosnowiec dealt Chloe Bibby and Gorzow a blow in their quest for the top seed with an 80-73 win on Sunday.
