Overseas League Updates February 3rd

Turkish League Round 23

The round before the international break started on Friday. Tarsus looks to be getting stronger at the right time with critical games coming up to keep them in the league and Danielle Robinson and Khadijiah Cave kept them close before losing to Galatasaray 90-87. The trio of Damiris Dantas, Sug Sutton, and Goksen Fitik led Orman to a 97-80 win over Kelsey Bone, Jaelyn Brown, and Antalya. Cankaya University is also making a late run to try and get out of the danger zone as Brooke McCarty-Williams and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough helped them edge Alanna Smith, Sydney Wiese, and company 87-83. Natasha Howard and Fenerbahce stayed perfect with an 87-69 win over Emma Cannon and Nesibe Aydin. The tough season is almost over for Betul Kutlu and Hatay after their 130-63 loss to Taya Reimer, Lindsay Allen, Natasha Mack, and Botas. On Saturday, Bursa was trying to get out of danger, but lost to Jaime Nared and Izmit 77-71. Cukurova started well, but the domestic struggles continued after Dana Evans and Besiktas left with a 75-70 win.

Italian League Round 17

All the games in this round were played on Saturday ahead of the international break, starting with Schio’s 76-62 win over Sassari. League leaders Venezia had no trouble defeating Sanga Milano 85-70. Behind them, Bologna defeated Faenza 76-54. The jockeying for playoff positioning below the top trio has been fierce and one game went to overtime before Ilaria Panzera and Jazmon Gwathmey could seal Sesto San Giovanni’s 75-70 win over Lidija Turcinovic and San Martino di Lupari. Ragusa defeated Campobasso 63-49 to keep the race for homecourt advantage in the playoffs close. Ciera Johnson and Battipaglia looked like they might finally break through and win, but Oxygen Roma recovered for a 63-55 win.
