Overseas League Update February 2nd

French League Round 15

The last round before the international break started on Thursday with a game that could carry on to the playdowns as Landerneau got a 73-71 win over Jasmine Bailey and Angers behind Roxy Barahman. Friday started with Carla Leite and Tarbes jumping out to a big lead, but Marine Johannes and Lyon had the better of the rest of the game in a 78-72 win. Kayla Alexander and Bourges defeated Charnay 78-57. Saint-Amand made their latest addition to get out of trouble, but a 71-52 loss to Alisia Jenkins and Lattes Montpellier left them very likely to have to head to the playdowns. Jasmine Walker and Charleville-Mezieres had a fantastic first half and held on for an 80-77 win over Landes. Villeneuve-d’Ascq stayed all alone in first place with a 91-66 win over Roche.

Spanish League Round 20

The last round before the international break started on Thursday with Girona’s 83-56 win over Sedis. On Friday, Sika Kone tortured her former team in Avenida’s 88-68 win over Gran Canaria. Celta could not widen the gap above danger, losing to Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu and Ibaeta 77-57. A great fourth quarter helped Marena Whittle and Estudiantes defeat Araski 65-56. Ferrol avoided falling a game back of the playoff chase with a 75-66 win over Gernika. That aim was helped by Aislinn Konig and Jairis defeating Ensino 80-75 in Lugo. Barcelona took a big step towards safety with their 58-39 win over hapless Bembibre. The most fascinating game was certainly the one where the winner would end up alone at the top of the standings and it was Alina Iagupova who showed her brilliance in Valencia’s 60-47 win over Zaragoza.
