Australian League Round 7 December 21st-23rd

The round started on Wednesday with Jade Melbourne and Rae Burrell trying to pick up the scoring slack for Canberra, but the team is still looking for their first win after fading late to let Perth leave with a 97-83 victory behind Sami Whitcomb and Chloe Bibby. Thursday’s game was a barnburner as Mia Murray fired away from the outside, Cayla George had a triple-double while playing every second of the game, and Olivia Nelson-Ododa continued to make up for Melbourne being down an import as they prevailed 106-100 in overtime over Stephanie Talbot, Lauren Mansfield, and Adelaide. Lauren Jackson and Southside handed Bendigo their first loss 96-67 on Friday. The two teams in last place met again and Rae Burrell’s good game was not enough for that elusive win for Canberra as Keely Froling and Shyla Heal paced Sydney in an 87-72 win.

Spanish League Round 13 December 22nd-23rd

Half of this round was played on Thursday and the only game that was not a rivalry matchup was the first one, which saw Zaragoza win 64-54 at Barcelona. The Basque Country rivalry resulted in a big 69-61 win for Ibaeta over Gernika. The two Madrid teams played a close game with Estudiantes edging Leganes 61-59. Tenerife came back late to defeat their Canary Island neighbors Gran Canaria and avoid being completely stranded at the bottom of the standings. A 92-60 loss to Valencia on Friday left Jairis in the danger zone. Araski’s late charge still left them short against Avenida 66-60. Girona had a strong second half to win 67-57 over Sedis. The round ended with Bembibre’s 73-59 win over Ensino.
