Overseas League Updates February 4th

Australian League Round 13 February 1st-5th

The round started on Wednesday with a key game for the playoffs and Karlie Samuelson and Courtney Woods helped Townsville leave with a 91-81 win over Robbi Ryan and Perth as the visitors made a signing in time for the stretch run. Fresh off signing a contract, Stephanie Talbot played all 45 minutes for Adelaide and was tremendous, but even help from Isobel Borlase was not enough in their 97-90 overtime loss to Jade Melbourne and Canberra. The showpiece game on Saturday definitely did not go as planned as Southside lost their captain early and then Tiana Mangakahia led Sydney to a 68-67 win. Tianna Hawkins and Courtney Woods kept Townsville tied at the top of the standings with another win over Lauren Scherf and Perth, this time 95-91. The Sunday game had Melbourne absolutely smoking Bendigo 115-72 behind Cayla George and Kristy Wallace.

Turkish League Round 18 February 3rd-4th

This round was scheduled heavily on Friday to allow players to get to the international break quicker and Fenerbahce only had two foreign players available, but Alina Iagupova and Kayla McBride were both strong in their 101-74 win over Chennedy Carter, Channon Fluker, and Bursa. Botas climbed into a strong position in the standings after getting a 77-53 win over Jantel Lavender and company. The schedule was very unkind to the teams fighting the drop for this round and Cukurova coasted past shorthanded Kayseri 70-56. On Saturday, a battle for a spot in the playoffs saw Tan White and Cankaya University win shorthanded 70-65 despite Alexis Prince’s excellent game for Hatay. The trio of Teaira McCowan, Azura Stevens, and Kamile Nacickaite helped Galatasaray halt Marie Benson and Rize’s rise 88-69. Khaalia Hillsman and Antalya continue to sit in the last safe spot after a 76-66 loss to Dana Evans and Besiktas. Down a foreigner, Jessica Thomas and Chelsea Nelson picked up the slack for Nesibe Aydin in a 79-69 win over Reshanda Gray and Orman.
