EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers Game 1 November 8th-9th

Qualifiers for the European championship in two years started on Wednesday with the rest of the games played on Thursday, except for Israel’s game, which has been postponed to February’s qualifying window due to the uncertainty surrounding logistics. The number of teams participating and the hosting decision allowed the format to be much more straightforward in this cycle. The four hosts, Italy, Greece, Germany, and the Czech Republic, will play each other in Group I, allowing them all to play competitive games without distorting other groups. The rest of the groups all have four teams so results will all count with the top team in each group advancing along with the four runners up who perform the best in their games. The other two windows of games are scheduled for November 2024 and February 2025.

Group A:

The group nearly started with a surprise in Split and Croatia will feel like they missed a golden opportunity early, losing to Spain 70-65. The Netherlands had a fast start in Amsterdam to defeat Austria 64-45.

Group C:

The lone Wednesday game was in this group and the process started in surprising fashion. Poland was finally able to debut Stephanie Mavunga in the naturalized player spot and took the lead early in Antwerp, stunning defending champions Belgium 67-62. Azerbaijan is a new entrant to qualifying in this cycle and being able to add Brianna Fraser to the lineup alongside Alexy Mollenhauer helped them, but Giedre Labuckiene and Lithuania dominated the second half in Vilnius to win 99-62.
