EuroLeague Round 14 January 30th

Group A:

The first game of a busy final Tuesday of the regular season started in this group with Fenerbahce finishing strong even after securing the top spot as Emma Meesseman and Kayla McBride led them past DVTK 95-71. That left the second place for the taking by Schio when the two simultaneous tipoffs occurred, but there was more at stake for Nadia Fingall and Valencia, which kept their hopes alive with an 87-60 win. There was no miracle forthcoming though as Zaragoza start on fire against Bria Goss and eliminated Lublin, rolling to a 96-49 win and the last quarterfinals place. The other two teams that were eliminated before this week met with Gabby Williams leading Lyon to a 94-77 win over Borislava Hristova and Sepsi.

Group B:

Only one game in this group did not have any possible implications on the next round so it was played earlier than the three simultaneous tipoffs that closed the regular season. USK Praha finished their great regular season with a 77-56 win over Cukurova. Two of the games could resolve the last two spots rather simply and one result fit that bill in Salamanca when Laura Gil and Avenida defeated last place Gyor 56-42 to secure one berth. Virtus Bologna needed to win to still have a chance and they did against eliminated Landes 74-66. Brianna Fraser and Polkowice probably had the toughest route to the last spot and they could not get close to the hosts Villeneuve-d’Ascq, which seized the last place with an 85-72 win.
