San Fransisco is home to the newest WNBA expansion team – My Thoughts

Golden State WNBA Team.

The WNBA made it’s official announcement regarding San Fransisco as it’s newest WNBA expansion team this morning. The team will tip off in the 2025 WNBA season and the ownership group is the Golden State Warriors CEO and Co-Executive Chairman Joe Lacob and Co-Executive Chairman Peter Guber. They will play their home games at Chase Center in San Fransisco. They will practice at Golden State’s Oakland Facility. This is the first expansion team in 15 years as Atlanta was the last expansion team in 2008.

I am thrilled that the WNBA is expanding and that San Fransisco was chosen as the next expansion team. I believe that Golden State WNBA franchise will exceed as there is a huge market for WNBA fans in that area and popularity will rise in attracting more fans to the WNBA. I also believe that the ownership group will do a terrific job in terms of marketing the team, advertising and getting their NBA counterparts, the Golden State Warriors to support them. They can now come together and help attract more sponsors and gain more traction for both the NBA and the WNBA. I also believe that the interest will rise among the women college basketball superstars who are juniors and seniors to stay focused and maybe ensure that they could be chosen in the 2025 WNBA Draft for this expansion team. San Fransisco is vibrant, is tons of fun and has a nice city life filled with a diverse community. It is perfect for these young women to start their WNBA careers and possibly stay their entire career there. They will also attract many of the top WNBA free agents as San Fransisco is very popular and nice to live in during the summer. This Golden State team will do well in the WNBA and will help the league continue to attract more fans and increase revenue so that the WNBA can continue to expand and grow their fanbase and revenue.

I believe that this is a right step in the direction of the WNBA and that San Fransisco will do really well as a WNBA team. I look forward to watching them play when they tip off in 2025 and I can’t wait to see which other city could potentially be another expansion team. There’s rumors that it could be Portland, but nothing official has come out yet. We waited 15 years for expansion, let’s continue to push forward and keep expanding the league because there is an incredible amount of talented WNBA players who also deserve their oppurtunity to shine and can’t due to lack of roster space and a lack of teams.

Today marked the start of a new chapter and that good oppurtunity awaits in San Fransisco, home to the WNBA’s 13th team. Congratulations to San Fransisco residents and enjoy when the team tips off in 2025.
